Large & Heavy Antique Mahogany Baby Cradle
Wow, what a rare find! Lovely, antique, baby cradle salvaged from Northeastern Pennsylvania. Except for the floor or base, it's made entirely of mahogany. The base was replaced at some point with heartpine plywood. Heartpine is a hardwood and it takes 30 years for a pine tree to develop just 1 square inch of heart wood. The plywood is definitely old and it's not cheap like the plywood you find commercially available today.
In order to replace the base, the blades needed to be removed. Whomever replaced the base also re-secured the blades and did a good job.
Our carpenter inspected the piece from top to bottom, inside and out and there was nothing for him to repair, replace, or even tighten/reinforce.
It has the common nicks and scratches that you would expect to find on an old, used, piece of furniture, but no breaks, cracks, rot, or warp. All of the joints are tight, and overall, the cradle  is strong, sturdy, and ready for a lifetime of service.
Wooden doll cradles are common, but old, wooden cradles for actual babies are getting harder and harder to find--don't miss out!
